This natural reserve is geographically located in the central region of the Almería province, between the prominent mountain ranges of Gádor and Sierra Nevada to the west, Los Filabres to the north and Alhamilla to the south, covering an area of 11,625 hectares.
A semi desert climate and favorable erosion throughout time gave this desert a particular and spectacular geomorphological and scenic advantage.
The harsh ecological conditions that exist on this desert have forced the living beings that inhabit it to develop adaptation mechanisms which helped in the creation of its exclusive and special elements.
